Verbum Caro Factum Est was commissioned by the University ofSt Andrews Alumni Club, London for the 600th anniversary of the founding of the University of St Andrews and first performed at St Paul's Cathedral, London on 20 December 2012, in the presence of Her Royal Highness The PrincessAlexandra, by St Salvator's Chapel Choir, Thomas Wilkinson (organ) and The State trumpeters of Her Majesty's Life Guards, conducted by Michael Downes.

At the first performance of Verbum Caro FactumEstreadings were interspersed as indicated in the score. In a concert performance these sections may be used as short organ cadenzas.
